FOREWORD.

Seven years ago, as a patriotic gesture to relieve paper shortage in time of war, the Lawnswood High School Magazine ceased publication. Now, two years after the peace, though paper is as short as ever, our Magazine is again in print, for to wait for plenty might be to wait for ever! We cannot sacrifice indefinitely what this magazine represents, the record of the day to day life of the School through each school year.

In 1940 I sent my greetings to the School, past and present, as we faced up to a world war in which, at that time, victory seemed a forlorn hope. To-day I greet you all again as we face up to the problems of peace, seemingly more complex and more dispiriting than those we faced in 1940. Yet in the changes and difficulties of this post-war world, it is still the same qualities we require, perhaps in fuller measure. So I still wish you, as I did seven years ago, courage and resolution, kindliness and generosity, the spirit of co-operation and in addition, the strength to go on working cheerfully year in, year out, wherever and whatever you may be.

M. HOLDEN.
